T180 Oil Pressure Warning

Hi all,

I have had a the oil pressure warning light come on and then go off while going round a tight roundabout on tight lock which, this has happened a few times but only if cornering quite hard. If i go round slowly so there is no body pitch, then all is fine.

Is this something to be concerned about?. Had anyone else seen this?

Thanks for you help.

Asking the obvious, but have you checked the oil level on the dipstick?

Oil warning light coming on when cornering seems to me to suggest the oil level could be low and the centrifugal force when cornering is possibly causing more than usual movement of oil in the sump, exposing the oil pump and giving temporary low oil pressure.

Hi Bryan,

Thanks for your note, and yes I have checked the oil and its within the lower part of the dipstick. The only thing that occurred to me was the "dealer" I bought the car from was supposed to have serviced it before I picked it up and I wonder whether they used the correct type of oil?, its due for a service in 3500 miles so will make sure it is done properly.

I'm not sure that I'm following this thread correctly so apologies if not, but ...

  • If you've still got 3,500 miles to go before your next service and the oil level when correctly measured is closer to the min mark than the max, then add 0.5l of the correct engine oil for your T180 [please!]
  • Are you sure this is a oil pressure warning light rather than an oil level warning? The 4.4 has both and I've experienced the oil level one correctly telling me that the oil level was a bit on the low side. I don't know what the T180 has.
