Insurance Increase After Wee Paint Job?

I need to repair some damage on my rear bumper. While I'm at it, I thought I would glitz it up a bit with......glitter! No, not a complete glitter job, just eemmmm shinier than the metallic blue it already is.. I also have in my head kind of ice/snowy swirls along the sides.....also just lightly done. Has anyone added colour and had their insurance bumped up coz if it?

What the insurance company would look at would be whether new the colour or finish would be more costly to repair in the event of a claim. For example in the 90's some Fiat Puntos and Nissan Micras were finished in polychromatic paint, which appears to change colour when viewed from certain angles. I would imagine this would be more difficult, and hence more costly, to respray.

I'll give them a call tomorrow and see what they say. I'd be doing it myself so not sure how they'd view that regarding repair. I've seen a car that colour running around here, nearly crashed staring at it!!

Don't call em, your causing troubles for your self.... I'd only call them if your changing the colour completely, IE Black to White. Also if your just putting in some glitter, big deal. To be honest especially if your doing it your self and its not going to dramatically change the looks then i mean I wouldent.

Most companies don't care if it's just little details like decals and such, but as always it's best to give them a bell to clarify so they don't try and screw you over if you ever have to claim!

Hi,

Feel free to give us a try for insurance if you like. If you wanted to PM me your details I'd be happy to arrange for one of our quotes team to get in touch. We can cover non-standard paint jobs no problem.

Regards,
Dan.

Well, it looks like the amount I'll be doing won't make a difference to my policy, especially ad I'll be doing it myself. Now just to wait for warmer weather and find somewhere sheltered....no garage here!
