easier to get a shorter fan belt and bypass the air con pulley

Tried for shorter belt but got the run around have a D4-D 1ADTFV engine type 2007 Avensis was told it would have to be measured up and all that now can if necessary draw up the bypass pulley and have someone local machine one but the belt would be my first option if anyone knows the correct size?

You can always measure it with a hard nylon string. Measure the original belt length, then use a string to measure the path between the three pulleys, AC in the middle, and then bypassing the AC pulley. Apply some math and you are done.

Like the others have already said, with the belt in situ, run a string/cord along the same route as the original belt, but miss the AC pulley. Measure the length of the string/cord and get a belt close to the length obtained.

I included the link showing the belt routing, so you delete AC pulley.

There are no obstructions when bypassing the AC pulley?

The option is to create a dummy compressor/idler pulley so the original belt is used, but it is more hassle than it is worth. I think that is what you wanted?

Also the A/C clutch can be fixed. What is the original problem with the A/C?

Hi Ive had the same problem very noisey bearings on A/C pump, so by passed it with a shorter belt and have done the last 150k miles. I just ordered belt for an 04 avensis 2.0 D4D with no air con from local motor factor and have had not fitting issues, car now on 264k miles and in every day use as taxi

I think bearings but there are two small reasons I'd want to remove it firstly less weight on engine and second less weight on pulley(might even extend life of engine, peanuts but car is being driven as Taxi so I want to chase this down, thanks lads
