Fuse Or Relay?

Hi

All of a sudden my central locking, clock display and the buzzer to warn me to switch off my lights have stopped working (may be other things too but I've not noticed)

I suspect it's a fuse or a relay but owners manual diagram doesn't point to an obvious culprit. Car still works fine in all other respects but would be nice to be able to lock it!

Any ideas?

It's a 1998 2.0 diesel avensis estate

I don't know much about your model, but if in doubt just check all the fuses. If one or more have blown, even if it seems unrelated, change it.

I had a similar thing happen on a BMW years ago. It refused to turn over. I checked the fuses and the only fuse that had gone was for something completely unrelated, so I ignored it and carried on investigating. I friend came over and started having a look with me. He noticed the fuse gone, replaced it and it all started working!

7.5 amp 'Dome' fuse. Swap it regardless of the condition. It may not have blown, but the metal properties may have degraded, giving more resistance. Like the fuse has blown. This fuse is located in the engine compartment fuse box, highest fuse of the first column from the left, looking from the nearside wing.

Keep an eye on the 'dome' light as on some versions, the bulb is held by sprung contacts at both ends. I had short outs because of this and got a replacement which has only one side sprung. Most Toyota's dome lights are inter-changeable - colours grey or white.

When this goes wrong the 'dome' fuse blows.
