New to site so hopefully this is in right place,

I've been trying to get my 1.6 2006 corolla remapped, 3 different places have told me they can't do it, only diesel version can be done apparently. Why is this? Can it be done, and where?

Non-turbo petrol engines are rarely reckoned to be worth remapping to be honest, the potential power gains are so small. Perhaps a 5-10 bhp increase if you're lucky, assuming you can find anyone to do it on this engine. You can't just tweak the boost or the fuelling in the same way you could with say a turbo diesel so there isn't really any scope to increase power from a map alone, you would need to carry out some serious physical modifications to the engine.

I've tryed to remap my car with the mods I have and you can't as Toyota installed a ecu which you can not write to so my guy said we have to install a stand alone ecu like the one I have on my 200sx turbo. With the different mods I have put on the car and also my mate has too the ecu learns to alter and air&fuel mix to a point but nothing major be we will be getting the cars rolling roaded with the improvements done to see if we have gained.

Thanks for the info guys,

Was thinking about high lift cams, is this a possibility? I'm sure a mate said something about needing remap after fitting, hope not.

Also is the vvti going to be issue?

I have seen modified cams available for VVT-I engines but I would think it's very likely that a remap would be needed to make the engine run right.

Consider also that the 1.6 Valvematic engine in my Auris has continuously variable valve lift, but still only manages 8 bhp more than the 1.6 VVT-I engine that it replaced. I think that's probably a fair indication of the very maximum power gain any change in valve lift is going to achieve.
