Rav4.3 T180 Wheels And Tyres - Again!

On Thursday I took the plunge and had the two rear Bridgestone tyres taken off my Rav 4.3 T180 and the BSR Support ring removed and had two standard Hankook tyres fitted. During my visit to B.M.T.R. Ltd,. in Perry Barr, Birmingham, who handled the job brilliantly, a few points were raised that I would like to run past the Toyota Rav forum and especially any Toyota mechanic etc. tuned in.

1) As the Rav (according to the manual) in normal conditions puts most of its drive through the front wheels, I wanted the newly shod wheels moved from back to front. The guys at B.M.T.R suggested that this couldn't be done as it would upset the tyre pressure monitoring system. Is this true, and each wheel pressure monitoring valve sensor is tied to its own corner or can they be moved around?

2) I have read on this forum something about Mr T with his box of tricks, can turn off these's sensors, is this possible ?

3) I may in the future replace the alloys with new, as they are beginning to "show alloy rash", if I did this I would probably forsake the monitoring system and just fit standard valves in the wheels, so I wouldn't have to be worried about some over zealous tyre fitter breaking the Valve sensors. Would I be able to get the monitoring system turned off or would I be going round with the flat tyre warning lit on my dash?

Comments please.

BTW I have also just took delivery of a space saver spare wheel, it has to languish in the boot, but hey I feel a lot more contented.

Cheers IGMIT

I'd be interested to have the details on your space saver spare wheel.. I bought a full size spare just incase, to be honest it's a pain lifting it in and out due to the size and weight..

I bought it of eBay for £150 delivered, not available now as I bought last one.

However they are listed here on eBay.

That add states "will fit any sized wheel", does this mean that this 17" space saver wheel will be suitable for my 2011 SR which has 18" wheels?

  • 3 weeks later...

I have two sets of Bsr tyres winter/summer.Every time i switch them Mr T fits them on without any order and then he just enters the 4 codes of the tpms on the tester.

So for sure there will be no problem to move the tyres from the back to the front.

Regards
