2006 2.2 D4D Rattle

Hi everyone . can anyone shed some light on my rattle. When I accelerate (usually in low gears) the engine rattles till if I back off the revs between gear change . think it sounds like injector noise . it started happening suddenly but it has not affected the performance at all.

Thanks Andy.

is it definitely the engine?
maybe get someone to rev whilst you have a listen under the bonnet.

there is a common rattle with the air intake pipe, mentioned in the topic below.

It could be the dual mass flywheel going by your description. The torque is higher in the lower gears and lessens in the higher gears. Does the rattle decrease or cease when using light throttle openings and not accelerating?

That is why some manufacturers have tune engines with reduced torque.

If the rattle happens in all gears, I would look at the injectors and fuel pump.

I know it is difficult to record, get a friend to get some footage so that we can get an idea of the sound and when it happens.

'I'(avensisd4d786) and myself have put two different ideas. 'I' is more familiar with the diesel engines so may have the solution.

Also it will be cheaper than the DMF and injectors/pump.

I like the work with the cheapest/free first.

is there any engine warning lights?

normally when the dmf is rattling its a metallic noise, it will rattle on idle and tone will change if the pedal is depressed.

another point if its the DMF you should be able to hear the noise coming from the box.

Yes Konrad is right a video would be helpful.

Has car done high enough mileage to suspect injectors?

Had any starting issues?

Is it smokey?

Diesel knock usually heard when engine tries to advance timing due to another problem but would normally bring on a fault code. And enter safe running fueling map ( power restricted)
