Hybrid Newbie

Hi Everyone, recently bought a new Auris Hybrid TS. Really enjoying the car so far and enjoying trying to get my mpg figures up with each journey. I just had a few questions i hoped people could help me with.

The 'cruising range' doesn't seem to be very accurate, i know this is usually based on current driving, but it seems to drop significantly on the motorway when going along at 55/60 mph, and the eco mpg is reading high 60s. is this a common thing? or is it just my mind expecting more? i went to liverpool over the weekend and used over 1/4 tank of fuel, which i though was a lot for a 120 round trip (manchester to liverpool and back).

Also when in ECO mode, i dont seem to get as good MPG as when i'm not in ECO mode, i havent fully experimented with the PWR mode or EV. i have mainly used eco or 'normal' but dont seem to get as good mpg in eco mode which i though was quite strange.

it could just be me taking longer than i expected to get used to diving in a way which gets the best economy, but i thought i would ask other owners before i jumped to conclusions about myself or the car.

Any help or replies are greatly appreciated, and i'm sorry if this has been covered already.

Thanks in advance.

Hope you`re enjoying your auris....we love ours and it`s saving us a fortune in fuel...I find the cruise range a little disappointing too, but most of the time I have the overall mpg on the display....tho I`m not sure if yours is the same display as mine. But on a long run mpg will put a smile on your face.

If the car was brand new then it'll need a good 10k miles to bed in properly and start returning a decent fuel economy.

Leave the EV button alone unless showing off once in a while to friend etc, or just moving the car on the drive, or a very short distance, as it'll generally cripple your economy.

Can't comment on eco vs none eco as I've always got eco mode active on my Prius and it seems to do what it says on the tin.

Your MPG should start to impress as the ambient external air temp does also.

What he said. It'll all settle down in due course. The hybrids really need more than 5,000 miles on them to even start to get the best economy out of them.

Don't try and out fool the car - it'll get the best economy if you let it do its job.
