1998 Toyota Rav41 Rear Shocks

Hi

Now the weather seems to be improving, it"s time to do some some work on my 1998 RAV 4 .

The first thing I want to do is replace the rear Shock Absorbers. Could anyone tell me. Is this a straight forward amateur mechanics job with very few tools at his disposal as all the work will have to be carried out on my drive and most importantly, which Shock Absorbers do you recommend, but not expensive ones.

I have seen Monroe D7694 and Meyle 30-267250009 shockers advertised on eBay for roughly £40+ for the pair. Are these recommended?

Cheers

As a post script regarding my Shock Absorbers, the reason I want to change them is when I put anything even reasonable heavy in the boot such as 2 full suitcases when we went on holiday recently the rear end of the RAV seems to be quite low.

Is this normal or could it be the springs?

Please any advice would be appreciated.

Hi David.

The springs determine the height of the car if it is loaded up where as the shock absorbers tend to determine the upper height as long as the springs have enough 'push' in them to put the car to it's upper height so i'd go for the springs first is i were you.

Give this guy a message, Kingo, he will give you advise if there are heavier duty ones availble too i'd imagine, ask for his phone number if you wish he's very friendly!
