First Gear.... Notchy :-(

Are all first gears on the 7th gen super notchy to get into gear?and is there any 'fix' to ease the notchiness :-)

When I was looking for my Celica a number of the Celica's which I checked out first all had rather nodgey gear boxes, one I could hardly get into reverse at all, but was told this is normal by the seller!. In the end one of the main reasons I chose the Celica which I have is because the gears are nice and smooth. I think it must be the age of these cars, with a lot of them probably needing new clutches and gear boxes by now especially with the hammering that some drivers give them.
