Hi Everyone! :blow:

Well I am a stroke victim from West Sussex who can still drive thankfully.........

After much battling with the various authorities, I finally got settlement to what I was entitled to for over 2 years! Long story for another day!

Anyway just 10 days ago I found a lovely Avensis online locally, went to see it & had a little haggle & about an hour later had it dropped off at my home :blow:

Now I love this car, driving it is so fulfilling & enjoyable, the engine & gearbox are so slick & typically Japanese as I expected the 1800 certainly has some go in it & it is very quiet!

Now my problem is how to remove the (nice for it's day) Sony double din CD Radio Cassette player without damaging the dash or stereo!

I was in the car trade 20 years but left a long time ago to pursue it work before I ended up having a massive stroke which changed everything, so I am used to stereo fitting/removal!

Now experience has taught me that if you are not sure, then ask people who are to avoid unwanted marks/damage!

I have a universal DIN adapter which should be fine, it's for Toyota models of 1999 to 2005 & anyway I am not worried about fitting, it's all about removing the Sony to make way for my lovely Alpine CD Radio Mp3 Player which has 64 GB of storage & all my music collection already on it!!

I have posted a picture of the dash in my Avensis so you guys will know which bits I need to remove.......

Many thanks for reading

Nick

Those ones are just clipped in as I recall. Pull towards you at the bottom corners. Then gently ease it around the head unit and heater controls to the point where you can get your finger tips either side of the facia beneath the vents. Jiggling left/right will then free the upper clips near the switch assembly. The wiring behind the upper switches is long enough to allow you to rest the entire facia on the dash without the need to disconnect any of the loom.

Hi Nick, I have the answer to your question.

I have the same unit and it is easy to remove. I have an old connects2 iconnect usb interface plus 10 disc CD changer in the boot.

Now to remove the stereo, first remove the black surround of the Sony, then pull the false wood facia, from the bottom, just above the ash tray. Tilt up and pull the facia away. This will included the vents and the switches. Disconnect from behind the switches to completely remove the facia.

You need a Philips screwdriver to remove the Sony from the dashboard. Then unscrew the brackets from the stereo to be used on the new head unit.

You may need this adapter cable PC2-17-4 Toyota Harness to ISO. I got mine from Nexxia. This makes your car ISO compatible and no cable needs to be cut. I had to get this cable for my handsfree bluetooth. Also reduces the risk of electrical issues and possible fires.

I will add photos if I find any, but removal of the stereo is as simple as my instructions.

I think the brackets can be removed and transfered to the new stereo.

The universal cable you mentioned should work so plug and play.

Thanks guys.

What would be more satisfying, is to see Nicks new stereo installed and working.

Having done upgrades on my own car like USB and bluetooth plus the CD changer in the boot, I have been enjoying my car for a long time. The JBL speaker speaker upgrade was well worth it. The old Speakers were falling apart.

Hopefully Nick, your condition will not hamper you installing your stereo.
