where is the gearbox filler plug on my 1997 carina e,or is there one?thanks in advance.

If you are talking Manual G/Box, then filler plug is located on LH side of box. Looking from front of car, it should be facing you. Drain plug is under LH drive shaft. Both are silver in colour & about 17mm or 19 mm in size.

If Auto, you fill through dipstick tube.

many thanks starensis for your reply ,was quoted 75 euro yesterday for set of platinum plugs ,hence my query,surely there must be a cheaper route,is it a matter of performance or economics?
