Sunroof ?

IQ Old git

Has anybody had a sunroof fitted to their IQ ? Im missing my yaris sunroof, and now the warm weather has arrived I really really miss being able to flick it open to let in a steady flow of fresh air. Ive looked online and waybesto ? seem to to one that would do the job, (tilt only) thats all I want having burnt my head last summer with the roof back, for about £147 plus fitting. Any feedback, and pics of roof without the headlining will be much appreciated. Thanks Guys. Colin

Hi Colin,

I've looked into this a lot as I would *love* a sunroof. The cost is generally around £500, but I'm concerned about leaks. One dodgy seal and there could be a costly repair bill.

That's all that puts me off, but don't let it stop you :)

The problem is finding a reputable one that will guarantee their work and stand by it, but there are several companies out there IIRC from when I was looking around. Some will even fit full slide/tilt electric ones with B-pillar drainage channels and everything! (Maybe too deep for an IQ tho')

I must admit it is nice having a sunroof (Or moon roof as it bizarrely calls it in the handbook!) when the sun is bright but mild like this.

This is about the only time of year I can actually slide it back as the sun is bright but not too strong; When it gets nearer summer I can only use the tilt or I can feel my bonce getting burnt without the protection of the sunroof filter!

'tis yet another thing I love about my Mk1 Yaris

I don't see that many small cars with AC and a sunroof these days, and when they do they're usually these crappy fabric ones, or a very simple external slide mechanism, not a proper internal tilt/slide one!

I too am a sunroof fan, as much for the light and fresh air as anything else.

Donkey's years ago (as in the mid 80s), I had a Webasto pop up one fitted my my MG Metro. It was great, never leaked in the 3 or more years I had the car and was opened and closed frequently enough. I had never considered one on the IQ.

I am not a fan of sun roofs. Not for the possibility of leaks but i see no point in a car that has A/C. Why buy a car with A/C, if 1, Your going to drive along with your windows open 2, boil as soon as you slow down or stop in traffic. 3, Get covered in flies and pollen and with a sunroof getting the luxury of boiling your head. 4, road and traffic noise. 5 Polluting your noise (radio mpe etc) into other cars whilst in traffic.

Just my opinion

Oh and Adam you could fold the hole up so you could get it into a normal size envelope

Well the sunroof and AC serve two totally different purposes so I don't know why you think one would preclude the other...

Personally, I like the extra light and feeling of space, but it does help vent out the hot air in conjunction with the AC when my car's been parked in the sun for too long.

We've had cars with both a sunroof and air conditioning. A sunroof allows more light into the cabin if one wishes - or one can have the sunshade pulled across. If is handier in hot weather - allowing one to vent hot air from the car quicker.

Given the choice between having only air con, or a sunroof and air con, I would choose the latter every time .......

We've had seven cars with sun roofs (mixture of manual and electric) and not had any issue with leaks, drainage channels blocking or anything similar.

I suppose i am not an outdoor person. Ideally i would live in 23deg@ 0 humidity and a quiet enviroment with no birds whistling (especially wood pigeons)and dogs barking. Having a sunroof or windows open would bring what the rest of you enjoy to me. Lol

Thanks for all of your replys. And yes I agree with 'top rank' I sorely miss my yaris T sport roof. Simple manual handle never leaked and never went wrong. Sorta wish I had kept it, but the £180 a yr tax was beginning to annoy. Could have kept it another 10yrs with what it cost to get into my current toy though. Suppose I just get bored. Cheers Guys Colin

Well, if it makes you feel any better, my old 1.3 Fiesta was also £180 to tax and it was a pile of crap, 200 miles to a tank, had half the torque and HP of my diesel Yaris and the spark plugs would galvanically weld themselves to the engine if I didn't change them every year!

(If I'd bought one that was registered 6 months earlier it would have been closer to a hundred because that's when they'd switched from engine size to CO2 rating!)

The IQ is a weird car tho' - As long as you don't look behind you, it actually feels much more spacious than a Yaris  You can pretend you're in an Avensis! :D

The other thing a sunroof is great for is helping dissipate that smell one finds making an appearance after eating, shall we say, baked beans. In fairness of course and not to be biased, there are other products out there that produce similar or even more smelly results. I was looking for the ROFLMAO but, I think it may have rolled away.

Christian, looks a nice clean installation. They do a really professional job when fitting these sunroof thingy-mabobs. Looks good with your car being white too.

Looks good, some of the controls look obvious, but what does the 1 & 2 do?

About button 1 and 2

If you prefer to open the roof just a little you can program ???? (I do not know if it is the correct term) . So you have 2 possibility of preselect opening.

About the cost around 250€ for the electric roof on eBay and around 150€ for fitting by a pro. Around 2 hours of work, but if you use to do mecanic by yourself, it is quite easy to do it.

Thanks for the excellent pics Christian. Not yet worked out how to download pics from my phone. Do you know the make and model of your roof, as its the neatest installation I have seen (some are really clumsy around the edging and switches). I cant wait to get one fitted with all this fab weather we are having in the U.K. Been waiting 3 days for a reply/quote from my 'local' ish webesto agent, so not looking promising. Cheers Colin

You are wright Craig bravo

It is an Webasto Hollandia H300. You can find them on eBay.de . There is a manual model and an electric one. I do not remember who tell me that the electric one was more reliable than the manual one?????

The electric one close by itself a few seconds after you switch of the ignition.....Pleasant often, but umpleasant if you wait in the car with the engine of. I think that there is a large and a medium one. Mine should be a medium. On my first IQ, I came to a specialist in Bruxelles to fit it. The man who has done many on IQ for toyota belgium take one hour to fix it (yes one hour) but he has done 30 or 40 IQ before. On my second IQ, I give the car to a bodybuilder, it's take 3 hours, but it takes time for the electrical wiring because he do not know the car.

Good luck, and enjoy your sunroof, it realy very pleasant, even if you have aircond.
