New Wheel Story (And Go Faster Stripes)

Afternoon all

I got my IQ in Jan. Love the packaging and the tax, but thought it could do with 'toughening up' a bit.

I didn't want to go the whole Max Power route, so decided to lower it a bit and add some wheels. Oh - and a go faster stripe.

I did loads of research on the ideal wheel dimensions. My worry was that they'd poke out beyond the front wheel arch. As you can see from the pics they fit perfectly.

For reference, they're 18 x 7J, ET42. Most aftermarket 18" wheel are min 7.5J, so the fact that these are slightly thinner with a relatively large offset make all the difference. Tyres are Toyo Proxis T1-R 215/35/18.

The downside to the unusual size was limited choice. The upside was that I found a bargain: £357 for the set.

Handling is more compliant than I thought it would be - that said I did run a Lotus Elise as a daily driver for 13 years until a couple of years ago, so I may be more tolerant than others

Anyway - what do you all think?

Matt

Looks nice....ive got a simikar stripe on mine but with IQ on it. Did you lower it yourself or get it done at a garage. If so how much were springs and fitting. I had my door mirrors wrapped black which adds a different look too.

The springs were £100 inc delivery from Germany (via eBay). Local garage fitted them and reset the alignment (as best they could as there's no way to make certain adjustments - front & rear camber/caster and rear toe) for £190

Black mirrors look good. Have been thinking about that. Have also been thinking about painting the four 'corners' black and maybe the lowest bit of the front bumper. A bit like this.

Less is more and I nearly started to get carried away but stopped at door mirror wraps. Wierd how people come from fast cars to IQ's. ...i had a GT86 before mine.

I've still got a fast car too - the reason I got the IQ is because the other car has appreciated in value by more than 25% in the two years I've owned it (it's 20+ years old). So I use the IQ for longer trips and the other car for sunny fun.
