Grinding/crunching While Engine Braking?

This is mainly noticeable in 2nd and 3rd gear when engine braking form around 3500rpm to 1500rpm there is a distinct grining noise, not too loud or harsh but it's definitely noticable. almost sounds like when you don't put the car into gear properly and you get that grinding noise but a lot quieter.

Only had the car about two weeks, its a 2001 T sport and has full service history and only has 49000 miles on it.

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks :)
