Are These Holes Supposed To Be Here?

Hi guys... I've had this car since March and have only just noticed 2 holes in the black trim where the window wipers are situated..

These holes are on the passenger side of the vehicle and there are none the drivers side...

I did think that these might be drain holes but presumed that they would be on the drivers side too...

I have enclosed a photo to show these to see if anyone can confirm what they are or have they been drilled out by the previous owner...

The holes actually go right thru the black trim and all the way thru the metal..

Thanks guys.....

Thru the metal? I thought the whole part was plastic. Haven't seen those on mine, most probably drilled. Don't know why though, maybe for the water to not stay there?

Presume this is a first generation Auris. I haven't got those holes on my 2012 Auris. The Wiper Blades aren't OE either.

Could they be tooling holes used for the Left Hand Drive models where the wipers are re-oriented?

I think someone has been posting similiar pictures. But it was quite a long time ago. So yeah probably they're there for a reason. Not from factory though.

I reckon someone's drilled them to drain water

I no longer have the car, in fact it was two cars ago for me now, but my 2009 1.6 Auris had four of those holes, I always assumed the previous owners (old couple) had drilled them to drain the water that sits there.

Very weird situation.... My wife went round her friends house yesterday and they have a 2013 Toyota Auris Hybrid... SHe took a look when she got there and said that that had 2 holes in exactly the same position as where mine are... She said there were only the 2 the passenger side but none the drivers side....

Stumped isn't the word now... I'm not sure if there factory standard or someone around our area is going around drilling holes in cars... lol

Maybe then it a drainage thing Toyota did as the holes look to small to be anything else I do notice water does pool up on that bit of trim and I think its maybe meant to go into the grill part and drain through the drainage holes at the bottom of that

My 2009 Auris has holes in the same places as the picture. They look like water drain holes to me.
