hi all i have a 2011 toyota auris with a noise in the dash.

its the drivers side. when i put pressure on the a piller trim it goes.

when i put pressure on dashboard near windscreen it goes. so i got something to keep pressure on them while i was driving. it was ok for a fewdays and then came back. i put two sided tape between them still no luck. the unusual thing is when i press in hard on the gauges it goes out of it as well. when you thump the dash it goes out of it sometimes. wondering is it something loose or what?.

i would really appreciate your help

thanks colm.

The A pillar trim panel has to break away cleanly if the side curtain airbag deploys so it's only clipped into place. I've heard there was some kind of problem with the type of clip they used so Mr T may have a fix.

Just a side note, tyre type and pressures can make a big difference to the amount of creaks and rattles you get so if you have stiff sidewall tyres and are running your pressures high you'll have more trouble.

I have a noise from exactly the same places but it seems to be related to my Brodit holder more than anything.

To take off trim panels you're really better to get a set of those little trim removers, they usually sell them in the motor factors and accessories stores and they're made of plastic so they don't cause damage. You need one that looks a bit like a carpet tack remover.

With the A trim panel it pops off initially OK (that's the bit that allows the side curtain airbag to deploy) but then it remains attached by the clips. So you need to get in and turn the clips through 90 degrees to get them out completely, you work from one end of the panel to the other. See the attached diagram, it'll make sense when you remove the panel.

I have the same problem with my 2011, but the noise is coming from the central console where there is the gear tunnel. Seems when I hold the tunnel with my hand it stops vibrating. Anyone have a guide as to how to dismantle the center console so I can refit everything tightly?

my gear tunnel noises small bit over bumps. just the plastic rattles a bit. strange thing about my dash noise is it can be very noisy one day and no noise the next so strange

Colm, yes it would be advisable to disconnect the Battery before working anywhere around airbags.

Adrian, it's surprising how little information there is out there about dismantling the Auris console. I've had a trawl about and found some odds and sods but there's obviously a need for a decent write up about how to do it. One trouble would be there's a couple of different configurations of console build.

this one unsure whether it's corolla or auris

I have noise/rattle in the front driver side pillar, the centre console and from the rear passenger side seat. I took it to Toyota to fix under their warranty and they told me it isn't covered!!! Some days the rattling is all over the place and really annoying, other days it's bearly audible. Toyota tech said that they used all plastics in the dash and most places and that why it creaks and rattles as they touch one another and expand/contract.

Did you replace the cabin air filter? Is your AC operating correctly? Do you have manual, or auto a/c?
