Ouch...rotten Trucking Council.....

Driving on the A12 on Friday morning 8am ish (Boreham Northbound) ...heading into work. Outside lane In a convoy following a car behind a truck...doing about 50mph. The trucks bow wave (freakishly) caused a very large bit of truck tyre rubber debris to fly up over the car behind it, and impact the front of my car. O/s near the fog lamp. About a foot square this chunk.

Couldn't swerve to avoid it as lots of traffic about.

Luckily managed to polish out virtually everything cept a small scratch caused by the wire inserts in the tyre and a bit where the paint had been compromised. Touch up paint took care of that and it's ok ish as long as you don't get too critical. Tirol silver so not a lot you can do with a brush.

Flippin annoying though.

Why do trucks leave this crud in the road and why don't the councils clear it up.

I am Relieved I was able to 'lose 99.5%' of it. Otherwise it would have been a 'ScuffnChips' bloke.

The luck (or not) of the draw.

I got hit by a large truck wheel nut the other day. I saw it fly off and come straight for me to the point I ducked - then BANG. I was really expecting the windscreen to go through but it hit my wing and left a real nasty scar which mostly polished out and I'll get the small dent pulled out one time.

But yes, it's not nice when something gets thrown your way. At least it's the car it hits and not your face.

I'm surprised more bikers don't get injured by debris to be honest.

Yep if I'd been on my bike it would have been serious. Probably why my wife made me give it up after my 3rd "off" and the shoulder fx.

Since Friday I've really been noticing the huge amount of debris trucks leave on the A12. Why do truck tyres seem to explode into a zillion bits on such a regular basis? Why don't truckers notice defective tyres well before the explosion occurs? Why must other road users put up with their negligence?

GC -a wheel nut? Good grief that could have killed !

Was once hit by a complete wheel, that detached itself from the rear end of a milk tanker that I was following up a hill. It came off the near side and luckily there was no opposing traffic so I was able to move to the right and it caught me only a glancing blow on the near-side front door.

We had a haulier turn up with a tyre on "his" wagon that was starting to shred.

We didn't let him leave site until the tyre was replaced - he had hoped he could dump the trailer in the next few days, meanwhile trusting to luck that the tyre held out.

Cost cutting, tight deadlines, lack of personal responsibility.
