2.2 D4D 2005 Avensis: Long Crank With Black Smoke

Hi

My car is starting to play up a bit. It takes a 4-6 secondsto start the engineer today I saw quite a big black cloud of smoke coming out.

My oil is 2months ol, I just filled my tank together with a bit of additive to clean the engine (40 miles so far)

Can it be just the glow plugs? (those might be 2-3 years old)

Anything else I could check before replacing them?

Forgot to mention that the engine is spinning normally and that when driving engine power is normal but smoke still coming out when taking off at traffic lights
