I can't be definitive because I've never done it (nor would I) but I don't think it's that straightforward...there's probably a list as long as yer arm in respect of the things that need to be changed.

Most peeps would simply buy a factory 190..and remember there will be likely insurance implications too.

I'm assuming it's a PRE-facelift.?..if so you'll want to consider the brakes too if they are the 255mm discs..the POST facelift and 190's had 275mm discs....you'll want the extra stopping power.!

You could try to have a word with Lee Mabbet at Se7en motorsports...he's the guru when it comes to modding Gen 7's

To get the 2ZZ running in a 1ZZ car you need:

The Engine

Exhaust manifold and exhaust system.

a 2ZZ ECU, a transponder chip, and the transponder pickup from the ignition barrel that reads the chip in the key

Some modification to the engine loom or probably a better bet just to euse the entire 2ZZ loom from the donor car. If you reuse the 1ZZ loom you need to swap some pins over - the 2ZZ ECU is obviously not identical to the 1ZZ pinouts and it's missing the VVTLI Loom to connect the ECU to the Lift actuator.

You also need the flywheel and a 2ZZ clutch.

TO get it working well, you need the 6 speed Transmission too. The ratios in a 5 speed are al lwrong for the VVTLi and it's peaky power characteristics.

Thanks Joe am using the loom from the donner car and fuse box, got ecu, manifold, exhaust, full engine and box got key but it has no chip in the key as it has a toad alarm on the donner car, taking barrel out ov ignition hoping it should just be a straight swap, any more advice would be helpful

  • 2 weeks later...

You need the receiver unit from the donor car, so that you can still operate the locks/alarm from the remote..you can use your transponder on the ignition once you change the barrel ..there is another way round but it is expensive.
