Instantaneous Fuel Consumption Indicator

Hi all,

I have a 2002 VVT-i VX, with the 6 cd player, can anyone tell me how to reset the integral display to read MPG instead of KPH? Not that it appears very accurate, it jumps about like a flea on a hotplate!

Ta Muchly!

Think you will need to enter 'Set Up', and go to 'Units', which will enable you to change from metric to imperial.

The instantaneous consumption will vary wildly, as it shows what consumption you're achieving at that moment in time - a more useful measurement is average fuel consumption, which once reset to zero, will provide an indication of what consumption you're achieving over whatever period of time you wish.

So it is able to be reset! I was beginning to doubt it! It doesn't appear in the handbook that came with the car, so I am groping in the dark, for which button on the combined Radio/CD/Tape, does what. Any Ideas on where I can get this info?

Regards

The OBC (on board computer) settings are somewhere in the radio section of the handbook but, to be fair, Toyota's docs aren't the clearest.....

To change the between metric & imperial units: switch on ign and select the read-out that you want by pressing the "Trip Navi" button, e.g. fuel consumption. Press and hold the top right hand button ( I think it is the tuning knob) until it beeps and it will then show which unit is currently selected. if you then turn the knob, it will scroll through the options and the first one should be MPG (assuming you are currently in "l/100").

Press the knob again to select or just turn off the ign and the selected unit will come up next time you start up.

The OBC on the 4.2 can be wildly innacurate but some are spot-on. Best do a few actual brim-to-brim calcs and check them against the corresponding OBC reading. You will then know how far out yours is and can get a near enough calc by simply adjusting the OBC read-out by the difference.

Good luck.

Thanks Jim,

I got the car as a "Fixer-upper", as I have wanted one for years. Now even though I can't do the work myself, I still can find the info to do it

Thanks again

Terry
