Haven't heard of anyone doing it themselves. I know there are companies out there which specialise in refurbing/changing the colours of alloys but don'tknow any of their names...

Have seen an MR2 owner on anothersite who had the colour of his alloyschanged and have to admit they did look good.

Personally would prefer to go down the route of selling the original ones and buying some that are already the right colour withthe warrantyandyou know they will last....

I've sprayed alloys several times over the last few years. Its not difficult. However you will need all four alloys off the car and the tyres removed for the best results.

Basically rub down the alloys with"wet and dry" sandpaper. Use a fine grade for minor scratches and heaver grade for kerbing marks. Make sure all the alloy face is at least rubbed down with fine grade so that the new layer of paint has something to grip to. When you've rubbed down all the alloys apply white spirts to clean the dust off and keep the surface clean.

Choose your colour and apply several layers, making sure you leave each layer to dry before applying the next. Once the whole surface is covered apply lacquer. Ally at least 3-5 layers of lacquer to the face of the alloy. Again make sure each layer is dry before appling the next.

Fit tyres and hey presto!

If you have spraying experience it would be an advantage. There is a technique. Get is wrong and you'll have runs.

Hope this helps.

Eeek no... I'll give Jerry a miss, haven't seen an episode where there aren't some rednecks', imbreeds, or just general muppets on there beating each other to a pulp....

Seems a bit extreme to me and the states would be a bit of a way to go to make a point...

Could always call the episode, "Blue Peter ruined my alloys and stuck a spray gun where the....." :D :D :D
