Disabling Alarm Without Using Fob

Hi guys,

Had an issue last week where my Fob didn't work and I tried to get into the car using my key, I turned the key to the left and Alarm went off. I didn't know how to stop it.

I turned the engine on and the Alarm was still going.

Is there a way to stop the alarm from going off in case my FOB doesn't work, like some sort of a sequence that I can do with the key?

Issue was with the Battery. Once I've changed it, all was well.

My only concern is that if this happens in a residential area at night. I haven't got a spare key so I will be stuck.

Can you please advice?

Many thanks guys.

Hi Mike,

Try the following - http://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/166489-avensis-1998-unlock-remote-key-fix-taken-from-forum/

The key can go out of sync when changing the Battery or other times.

This simple fix is in the handbook if you are lucky to possess one, but I missed it and found the fix on this forum.

what year of Avensis?

In my experience switching the engine on silenced the alarm.

If you are concerned about the noise you can always lock the car without turning the alarm on.

It's a 53 REG Avensis.

Battery on my fob died and I could only lock the car but not unlock it. So, I've used my key to physically unlock it by inserting it in and turning it into the left which triggered the alarm.

I started the engine and the alarm still kept going. but then it stopped after a certain time. Not sure if that's the only way to get it to stop or if there is a sequence?

It was very loud and in the middle of a residential area around 10pm, and I'm dreading having to go through this again.

Once I got home, I changed the Battery and everything was fine after.

Glad your key is now working.

I noticed my key was getting less responsive, especially unlocking. I changed the Battery but lost the unlocking function all together. There was no central locking nor alarm disarm. My other key was fine.

A quick search of the forum and I had the key fully working. After that I found a small piece in the handbook - re syncing the key.

The main thing is the Battery must be good.

Being the owner of an Avensis, I would prefer it if showing how to disable the alarm was not demonstrated on an open forum.

I might be paranoid but you just don't know who's watching.

I agree.

The title is a bit misleading. It should have said how to restore original key function with central locking/alarm.

The OP wanted to get his key working properly again, and unfortunately the title gives the idea that he wants to override security.

If somebody has a key that has been made, there is a very complicated way to get that new key to work with the car, and it involves having the master key. Locksmiths have the equipment to do this and can also programme a new key without a master.

If the owner said he wanted to bypass the immobiliser and alarm, I don't know the answer!

The only people who could get pass the security are locksmiths, and criminals with the right kit and knowledge.

The owners handbook containing information regarding keys and fobs, can go missing.

I am sure the forum administrator would have something to say.

Thank you Konrad. My post was a bit tongue in cheek, and I realise what op was asking, I posted to hopefully deter anyone who does know how to disable the alarm, not to reveal on forum.

Hopefully it can't be done.

I am being paranoid aren't I. :D

There are probably simpler ways than this, but, you could try leaving a window down, and then lock the car with the fob button.  Move away, wait for 2 minutes for the alarm to set, then stick your head or arm through the open window.  The alarm should go off.  Pressing the fob button once or twice should disable the alarm.

On some cars with 'keyless opening' this works better if the key fob is kept well away from the locked car, otherwise the car detects that you are near, and does not trigger.

HTH.

If you have an alarm, you may have a switch on the interior light surround or dashboard which disables the interior sensors - have a look.

I think the method with the hand through the open window is when you have the inside sensors and i dont have that. I will try to leave an open window ,lock it and open it from the inside, this should trigger any kind of alarm. I am confused about that securty light under the climate control that is flashing when the car is locked, it might be the imobiliser light.
