Rav4 Exhaust

Hi

Does anyone have information regarding a 2004 RAV4 center exhaust i.e regarding why there is two potential exhaust fitments, for same manufacture year.

Have just been quoted £700 for a replacement (cat) Part number 17420 28360 for my car when there is another 17420 28050 for same year of manufacture for £200??

Why would ones car need this additional lambda sensor/cat fitted??

Don't grasp the potential and unnecessary requirement and expense of a cat box when the lambda could be removed and run as per other cars with the silencer box.

Has anyone done this?

Any info appreciated

Jas

Your car running 17420-28360 is designed to meet tighter emissions regulations than the cars using 17420-28050 this requires additional oxygen sensors and catalyst, unfortunately unless you are willing to risk the Engine warning light being on permanently and not being aware of other engine faults you cannot just disconnect the additional sensor as your engine ecu expects to see it and for it to operate correctly. Its also possible that without the additional catalyst your car may not pass the MOT emissions test or even fail because the catalyst is missing which is now also a MOT fail

17420-28360 Fits 2003 Onwards facelift Rav4

17420-28050 Fits 2000>2003 Prefacelift Rav4

Your trim being an XT4 means the car is a later facelift model

Hi

Thanks for the info Lee. I kinda gathered there must have been a change for the emissions. But at an expense which is a bit excessive. Considering the cat is ok (the expensive bit) and its the exhaust flanges that are going (the cheap bit).No flange on cat, just an all in one welded bit of kit.

Some websites are showing the two part numbers for 2000-2005 Rav's. Hence the query.

Redlew the car is a petrol.
