Repairing Stone Chips.

My smart blue 2014 Prius got some minor stone chips on the bonnet and front plastic valance. I tried to touch them up with Toyota touch up paint but I was not satisfied with my efforts. I applied to "Chips Away" on line and the local "Chips Away" man called at my home this evening. He stated they cannot repair stone chips on the bonnet or on roofs of cars. He said the name "Chips Away" is misleading as they can only mainly repair dents and scratches. He advised me to persevere with my own efforts.

Is there any company that can repair minor stone chips that do not charge a fortune?

I think the stone chips were caused by a lorry going through the road work restrictions on the M1.

We've had local ChipsAway operators repair stone chips on bonnets and elsewhere satisfactorily in the past without problem, but I think it depends on the franchisee.

I saw a car dealer repairing stone chips....very minor stuff so not worth getting a chips away type of guy in. He was using the correct paint but used a tooth pick rather than a brush to apply the smallest amount of paint until it looked perfect to me.

What about Toyotas' own sticky patch thingies (forget the correct name), Parts-king can advise you.

I've used them on the rear bumper but they do tend to be noticeable on closer inspection, at least on my silver car they are.

Thanks for the replies. I am keeping the details of smartrepair Stompe in case my efforts are no good. I am going to have another try myself as the Chips Away guy said I was doing things correctly and to peresevere.

Good luck mate, you would think someone could come up with non chip paint these days.

Chip resistant paint has been around for years.

It was being used on the new escort back in the 80s (but only around the wheel arches).

The wheel arches that rusted and bubbled into nothingness?

I am still working on the stone chip damage. It is a job you cannot hurry, I have spent several hours so far over several days. I am pleased to say the "chips" are not as obvious now. An ex chaufeur told me to fill the chip gradually with approved paint and let it dry for at least 12 hours. I have avoided using fine emery cloth as suggested on U tube. I have used a very fine T cut polish instead.

Theres these guys called A1 DENTS. They are located in Uxbridge , just had dents removed from them. They are used by Mercedes regularly and I used them, fast service and good quality job. They have a guy who does stone chips just as them

Yup.

It was very interesting watching the painting process at Halewood. ;)
