Stiff Gear Change Normal?

Hello All

I can find a bit information on this but not much, any advice would be welcome.

Just purchased a second hand RAV 4 Diesel which generally I'm really happy with, the only thing I'm finding is the gear change in to 1 and 2 very stiff unless I'm going at a very slow speed or from a standing start when it is perfectly smooth. It does seem to improve the longer the drive is also.

I can find some posts that seem to say this is fairly standard - is it? Or should I pressure the garage in to doing something more about it. I did mention it to them once already when I had a separate minor adustment made to something else. They said they looked at it and the gear change was standard.

Manyt thanks for your thoughts!

James

seeing as no one else has answered ... I have had 2 Avensis with this box & they both have been very obstructive into 2nd going up or down the box until warmed up.

1st never really struck me as a problem although I rarely go from 2nd>1st whilst the car is still rolling.

Hi Heidfirst

Thanks for your reply! Funnily enough I drove around a lot today and the problem got less and less as time went by, so it seems that once the box has warmed up like you said it isn't such a problem. I'll keep an eye on it.
