Front/rear Cameras - Compatibility Of Video Formats

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I recently bought a new car multiemdia entertainment systeem (S100) for my Corolla Verso (model 2004-2007).

The used picture is NOT from the shop were I bought it from.

The reason for buying a new system is because the radio of the old nav system is no longer working and cd's are hardly playable.

Pictures of the old nav system can be found here (standard toyota nav system, build in from factory as an extra option)

With the old nav system I had a rear and front camera. I have been told that these cameras will no longer work with the new system as the new system uses a different video system (PAL) then the old system (ntsc). I have to buy a new rearcamera and also new cables have to be placed when installing the new system. The front camera will be no longer useable with the new system

After spending a lot of money on the new system this is kind of a let down. Are my old cameras indeed no longer useable with this new system?

Many thanks.

Need the specs of the old and new, or at least the new one.....suspect your comments are right PAL for the new system and NTSC fort the old one. They operate on different frequencies which will be the main problem - PAL - 50Mhz and NTSC 60Mhz. The camera and new PAL unit *maybe* compatible as many new PAL video systems can cope with a NTSC signal but unsure whether your unit will be able to.

Put some specs up and look for any mention of NTSC.

thx for your reply KenMavor.

I already tried to look up some specs of the new system and any mention of PAL or NTSC. No luck there unfortunately.

I did find out who made the system, which is the company Roadnav. The specs they mention on their site can befound here:

www.roadnav.com.cn

click for the S100 system.

Anyone knows if their system is NTSC compatible?

Your best chance would be to ask roadnav. Even if it isn't compatible you might be able to use a PAL/NTSC converter.
