Turbo Problem

I bought an 03 diesel Avensis estate 2 months ago. Since buying it it has ground to a halt twice. The engine management light comes on and it goes into limp mode. The code on the diagnostic is something to do with turbo over-boosting. It has 3 months warranty so I've taken it back twice and the guy keeps cleaning some valve but it still does it again. Anyone had this problem, know what causes it and what needs to be done to sort it. I'm concerned he's just trying to keep it going until the warranty runs out. It also seems to be doing less miles to the gallon after the last time he had it in. Thanks.

Hi,

It must be turbo control actuator, what it does is controls padles on turbo, since it is a variable geometry turbo. When car is in low revs it closes these "padles" then turbo reduces backpressure of exhaust gases in order to let engine breathe easier, when engine reaches around 2100rpm then turbo is at the full bost and opened padles, but when engine keeps increasing revs then turbo flaps angle has to be reduced again in order not to do overboost. It isn't very expensive and if cleaning doesn't help ask them to change it or check turbo itself.

take to another garage have them check the following

actuator, egr and a sensor that checks intercooler airflow (this sits near the egr)

Also rule out the SVC's

I'm having problems with the scv. Thought the turbo had gone as it wasn't boosting. Had the boost control valve changed helped a bit. Egr working fine had it checked. Took out the scv and gave it a bit of a clean put it back in and rotated it as I've seen post saying that helps. The car did drive better for a few miles then returned back to what it was like. If the turbo and waste gate are ok this would be what I would be looking at

buy yourself a cheap sonic cleaner.. stick petrol in the sonic cleaner and wash the dam thing.. that will fix it.
