I have just replaced my 2003 rav 4 d4d with over 165000 with a 2007 one with 40000 to find out the that the engine is scrap. Car came with warranty and all being well I will be getting new engine fitted. The question is do you still have to run the engine if so how long for? I tow a horse box with two small horses will I be ok to do this safely from the get go ?

If it where mine and I was planning on keeping it for a few years or so, I would have the clutch and flywheel changed whilst the labour is free and then treat it gently for 500 to1000 miles. I would then change the oil and filter and enjoy the next 100,000 miles.
