Fuel Filter/lack Of Power

Hi All

Have a T25 2003 2.0 vvti 155bhp petrol

Struggling on power all the time and seems jerky when warming up, but is still reliable just no power.

No error codes are coming up (professional diagnostic)

New iradium plugs not long ago, 500miles ago, same with air filter.

The diagnostic guy reckons to change the fuel filter....... looked on few websites and theres an in tank filter or a screw on filter? the manual i downloaded from this forum has no record ofa filter? is there one and is so where :)

Also would the catalytic converter starting to end its life cause these symptoms??

Unlikely to be the fuel filter. I would be looking at cleaning the MAF. Then the throttle body if that doesn't cure it.

Second that above post.the 1.8vvti avensis I owned was sometimes "jerky"and gave the clean out that gazza 1286 has mentioned.helped a great deal.

This will sound silly, but check that there are exhaust fumes coming out the exhaust. I came across a petrol Volvo a while ago with the same symptoms which turned out to be a faulty cat blocking the flow.

Thanks for the replies, and sorry for the long reply back.

I cleaned the maf and throttle body last week with electrical cleaner and............

She's a total different car, pickup is brilliant and the jerkyness is pretty much eliminated, hoping for a long run soon will fully cure.

Would proper maf cleaner be better??

Someone also did say to change the fuel filter as part of sefvicing. Or nor??

On some models the fuel filter is integral to the petrol tank. These do not have a service interval and should last the life of the vehicle. The earlier version had a serviceable part in the engine compartment which I used to replace every 27k miles (on 9k service interval engines). I never noticed any change in performance after swapping these over.

I've never used a MAF specific cleaner. The filament in the MAF is very delicate and rarely if ever requires attention. Replacing the air filter on regular service intervals is normally sufficient to keep it clean.

Note that the o-ring is fragile and is not available from Toyota.
