Slow Pick Up

Hi guys, just managed to get my 2007 d4d diesel estate on the road as my new car, but i dunno if its normal on these models but from a standstill the car seems to pick up, move in 1st very slowly like theres lack of power then after a few seconds it will pick up and go? its like theres no power at the throttle when accelerating, in the higher gears it seems to move along nicely and pick up quickly like the turbos working its just in lower gears? I dont have an engine warning light on or any other for that matter so im wondering is this normal for this model. Any advise would be appreciated.

they certainly aren't the quickest off the line but a couple of seconds seems too long. I've always felt that Toyota is electronically managing power delivery in lower gears to protect the DMF, tyres etc. - certainly with TRC on.
