Hi, I've just found this group, so I'm hoping some of you experts will be able to help. I've owned my first toyota for nearly a year now, no problems running at all. Its 1998, and had 145,000 miles on the clock. I suddenly had a problem with it this week after driving approx 25 miles in hot weather, it kept cutting out when starting, unless I revved it hard. When ticking over, it was very lumpy, and lots of black smoke. I got it home, and the next day on a short run it was fine. On advice from a toyota owner, I changed the fuel filter. When I started it up, it ticked over really sweet, but as soon as I went to move it , the engine stopped under load. I looked up on the internet that it might be the EGR valve, so had that off this morning. Under advice from diesco I put a a solid gasket in the short manifold. It is every bit as bad, wouldn't start and run unless under heavy throttle. The minute I took off the pressure, the engine died again. I though it must be injectors, diesco say not. What next? Should I be looking at the injector pump?
