Had the car a while now but i only started using the aircon cos its reasonbly warm.

But what i did notice is that after about 10 mins or so the light led light on the AC button starts to flash

Can anyone tell me what it means? is it a sign to say it needs recharging?

Thanks

Will

Hmmm, never seen it do this before. When mine lost it gas, the light just refused to come on period. What age is your car? It is possible that if it is a Rev 3 or newer i.e. newer than my Rev 2 that they changed the climate control system slightly. The light could mean you need a recharge, or it could mean the temp has reached the level you selected. Does it stop flashing after a while and light permantly again?

Slight hijack

How cold is the AC in an MR2?

Mine doesnt feel like its working, light come on and it blows cool air, but not enough to actually be usefull on a really hot day, i ended up bombing along the M3 with the roof out, flying goggles on B) :D

Could it need re-gassing.....

As for the flashing light, if your AC seems to work, it may be a dodgy switch/bulb/connector......although the mr2 seems to have an ecu for everything so it might have an AC ecu that playing about!! (its got one for the fog lights/PS/headlamps etc!)

i thought the same thing about mine, its colder than if there was no air con but as you say it doesn't make a big difference when it's really hot.

you both and myself need it regassed! ive read loads of people who have had the systems regassed and say how ICE cold it is compared to other and newer car's AC systems! at the moment mine is also weak and smells a bit like old socks.... mind you the gas is now 13 years old so its about time i reckon.

as for the flashing light thing i have no clue, the ac and climate control lights are known to stop working for some owners but ive never seen a flashing one before...

Yeah, you need a re-gas - or more worryingly the aircon compressor may have seized. This is a problem with many import cars at the starft of the summer here - you should run the aircon about once a month in the winter for a bit to ensure it stays working!

I quite often run mine in the winter to clear the screen....(ac makes the air dryer)

Anyone know roughly how much it costs to get the AC re-gassed and a good place to get it done?

The ac in my 200sx used to be so cold youd end up shivering and what looked like dry ice vapor would come out of the vents B). Taking the roof out is all well and good but its not ideal on motorways  speshly with leather seats  ouch ouch ouch ouch <_<

One of the bulbs on my heaters flashes too, its the one to point

the air flow the the windscreen.

I think its just a fault with the switch/bulb cos it only does every now

and again and the flashing isnt always the same

Sounds like to you need re-gassing, I have just had mine done, and its ice cold, and dont pay anymore than £50.00

Look for refrigeration in the Yellow pages and find a mobile specialist. Do not go to the Main dealer they will want £80.00

I was quoted £60-70 for a service and regas but not sure what a service involves. At an independent garage.

One summer I went to test the AC .. stuck it on the coldest and cranked it up .. about 15 mins later I could see my breath and had major goosebump attack ..

Mine is not as good as it was 2 years ago when i got the car, although it is still ice cold after a while, it stinks though, is this my car or has anyone else found it? It's like a kind of musty/cheesy smell (yes i have changed my crackers) I hope its not legionnaires :(

yeah i got that smell too mate, i looked it up and apparently its fungus in the ac system. all you need to do is spray some special fungus killer stuff into the ac intake and it goes away quickly, i think wherever you get it regassed from should do it for you.

I had my a/s conversion job done 2months ago, it was imported since january and it wasn't cold at all....After the job done, it went as low as 4degree C (lowest u can go before freezes the pipe".... I'm happy with it...

Having a/c on and having it blowing hot air is comfortable than not having a/c on during winter... feels much dryer

I think the A/C might be need regassing as it dosen't seem to cool me down enough. Saying that the EC light is fine!

I'll try recharging it.

Cheers

I still cant wear shorts when I have it on tho!

Mine wont be done by my local toyota dealer. The mechanic there said they cant do R12 air con regassing and that i need to go to an air con / refrigiration specialist...bugger.

I was told that it was due to the belt slipping (usually happens after going through a puddle). After a while the belt dries out and it stops flashing.
