Gear Lever Gaiter Change

My gear lever gaiter is peeling and I wish to replace it with a leather one. I know to get the gear lever knob off but the gaiter is below the reverse gear selection ring. How do I get the gaiter off. Any help would be gratefully received.

Take the plastic trim panel off under the gaiter. It should come off quite easily.

Thanks for that but I know how to get the gaiter separated from the surround . I need to get the gaiter off the gear lever and the ring you lift to engage reverse appears to stop me doing that. Does the entire gear lever detach in some way so as to take it off underneath?
