07 Avensis Satnav Cd Update

I am trying to establish if there is any way to get the satnav CD upate other than directly from Toyota.

My system occasionally reports that it cannot read the CD, or no CD in drive... when it is.

So, anywhere other than the expensive route via Toyota parts department and anyone else get this error, I would be surprised if there wasn't!

Look on eBay, Toyota sell the discs as a package that includes north east south and west Europe. Sometimes peeps in other European countries put the disc they don't need on eBay. UK is obviously Europe west.

Thanks for that, perhaps I should have said I have already scoured eBay repeatedly and not managed to find a decent one of the correct area and the appropriate year.... most have been the same age as mine or older, or just the wrong region...

I don't fancy paying Toyota €125 for a disc, although it looks like that might be the only option if I want one any time soon!

Les,

If the CD is only occasionally being not read correctly, it could be a situation of the CD reader laser lens being dirty ( same problem as sometimes occurs for audio CDs). Have you investigated that possibility?

afaik there are 3 legal ways - from a toyota dealer, from http://www.toyota-mapupdates.eu or somebody reselling an old/used genuine disc.

Having looked recently at eBay it looks like somebody has cracked the encryption & is manufacturing/selling counterfeits as there were too many current discs available at knockdown prices, often multiples from one account. These are often described as "backups" - legally to use a backup you need to own the original media too.

I am looking to get a CD Cleaner disk but haven't managed that yet, terrible admission for someone who works in IT.....

It's not just the occasional unable to read disk message, there have been a lot of changes to roads over the last 8 years.

I do find the satnav much better that the TomTom that acts as my hands free car kit!

The TMS part of it is very useful, although sometimes after sitting in a motorway hold up for 10-15 minutes the system announces "Slow traffic ahead"... I burst out laughing the first time it did it.....

I've always found that TMS cuts in with a warning just after you've passed the last escape route ... :bangin:

  • 2 weeks later...

So, update....

Bought a cleaning kit.... use the cleaner disc for the drive and cleaned the disc, which really needs a good polish to remove some contact damage.

Worked well for the first few uses, then went back to misbehaving again...

If I had the time and inclination I would strip the whole thing out and take it apart to find out if the optical carrier is hitting the disc.

Otherwise.... keep looking for another disc.
