Brake Bleeding

So, stupidly let my reservoir run dry for the brakes and tried to bleed them but still feels really spongy. Anyone got any tips please. And please don't say I need to do the abs too :(

If the reservoir is empty then you have a leak, no point in bleeding until that is fixed. Playing with brakes if you don't know what you are doing is dangerous not only for you but everyone else on the road. Take it to a local garage and let them do it.

I don't have a leak, I accidentally let it run dry while bleeding them, just wondering if any other precautions should be taken

The soft or sinking pedal is probably OK, especially on the diesels. Even my last petrol Auris did this in fact I was sure I'd get an MOT failure for it but it passd OK

When you sit stationary with the engine running and press the brakes then pedal decay will probably occur, it's an anomaly of the system. Some say it's due to the vacuum pump on the diesels being unable to create, or unable to maintain, a working vacuum in the reservoir at idle. Others say it's a valving problem.

If you press the pedal repeatedly with the engine switched off does the pedal go rock hard?

When you drive along the road and press the pedal hard do the brakes work OK?

If so then you've probably nothing to worry about.
