Do I Swap?

My friend has a 2013 Toyota Auris 1.8 VVT-i HSD Excel Touring Sports 5dr 24k on the clock

I currently own a 2010 Gen 3 Prius with 60k on the clock and had the car for just over 3 years.

Parting with a few k I think I can swap to the Auris.

Would you swap?

Depends what sort of condition the Auris is in, how much they want for it, whether there are other Auris on sale at dealers for a similar price with more come back, whether you can afford the swap, ............

Almost an impossible question to answer given the limited information.

By saying 'swap' do you mean exchanging cars, thereby avoiding the hassle of selling yours?

If so, then probably worth considering providing the Auris happily meets all your requirements, and the price is right.

as always, it's pros and cons, and individual preference

Are there things about either car you particularly like/dislike? E.G.:

• Prius digital Vs Auris analogue gauges
• Prius Head Up Display
• Some Auris have rear heating and ventilation issues (can't remember if this one is affected) - if relevant, does it matter to you?
• Is there as much/enough oddments space inside in the Auris?
• is load capacity a clincher?
• how do they feel to drive?

If you look at this from a cost to run point of view, they`ll both be about the same mpg, service costs, insurance etc....but the depreciation will be much higher on the Auris due to the age, where your prius has lost most of its depreciation and will start to level out. The difference will be £1000+ a year.

Unless you NEED an estate car...stay with the prius.

And I have an Auris.....they`re nice cars btw

Hi all, thanks for the feedback.

my friends Auris car is fully kitted out with sun roof and all extras included.

I would like a bigger boot hence im really interested in the swap.

My Prius is also fully loaded with all the bells and whistles.

The 5 years and 100k miles warranty is also a peace of mind as my prius aint got zilch now.

I had a look at jemca today and im slightly concerned with the legroom for the rear passengers??

I see Audi are starting to roll out a fully graphical dash across (at least some of) their range which neatly gets around some customers liking digital and some analogue.

I'd been hoping Toyota would do something like this for years. I suspect it would be cheaper in the long run if the same display panel was used on the whole range, with user-customisable displays to satisfy divergent tastes.

Interesting dash, I wonder if the owner can customise it to display any parameters they like or will/are they stuck with the two displays shown? Presumably, years away from being introduced into main stream dashes, or anything from Toyota? The UI and controllers used to interact with these systems is still possibly a problem?

I haven't been convinced (in the past) that the car makers collectively can build a good ui for their sat-navs, and Toyota lagged behind stand-alone units from Garmin or TomTom for ease of use. Not sure about the Touch & Go as I haven't used it?

I too considered swapping my gen 3 Prius for an auris estate with a glass roof.

But I couldn't do it. No matter how hard I tried to convince myself it was sensible. (the Missus has an Auris HSD).

You see every time I got in one I just felt I had got out of a 21st century car and got in a 20th century one. Which boils down to the cockpit and dials really.

I was worried about my Prius warranty expiring, but I solved this with Toyotas offer of 2extra years for the price of one.

To me it's not whether the dials are analog or digital, I just can't get used to looking down to look at the dials. I like them on top of the dash and with HUD.

I have similar thoughts about the dials and HUD but the pan sunroof, heated seats, and some other extras sounds very enticing.

Can anyone tell me if Auris with sunroof can also take a roof box?

My main concern is whether my child has enough leg room in the back, I find it hard to understand how the Auris is 2cm shorter than the Prius but the boot is so much bigger. The sales rep at Mr T told me the reason is the leg room in the back is sacrificed.

I will try and pop down the dealer this weekend and test the leg room with my iso fix car seat, until then can anyone comment on leg room?

Auris can seat 4 or 5 adults without a problem, so I don`t see a problem there....and if people choose a car because of the look of the dash, when a hsd toyota of any type is so much more....they need there bumps feeling. HUD I can see being very good from a safety point of view.

If you need a roof box then the car isn't big enough!

You need a Prius Plus.

All the luggage room you need, and the legroom, the bonus of extra seats if you need them to take the grandparents too.

You get to keep the 21st century dash, you also get the sunroof and in some models the heated seats too.

Don't forget the current Auris is a re-work of the first generation and has retained the same size wheelbase as the 2007 model, and its Type Approval.
