My '02 Tacoma 4x4 has an annoying clunk after applying then releasing the brakes. Research has indicated this is known as axle wrap when the not-so-stiff leaf springs contract then expand back to shape.

Anyone else have this problem and was successful in getting Toyota to resolve the issue? both the dealer and Toyota customer service says this is "normal" and there is no fix.

Not so good...guess I will not be buying another Toyota.

I have noticed that clunk a bit, but didn't worry much about it after hearing it was "normal". <_< I would like to add that my last truck was an old Ranger and I am SO much happier with my Tacoma that it will take more than a little clunk to get me in to a different truck! Feelings aside tho, I did do a lot of research before buying my Tacoma and they do seem to be a superior truck comparatively.

unsure: I have a 2001 Toyota Tacoma, it seems there is a problem with the drive shaft as I do get a slight clunk and almost a slight push forward after applying the breaks. This happens a lot but not all the time. It does concern me as I just purchased this truck used but in great shape. I read the prior comments which suggest "this is normal for Toys as it is called axle wrap, when you come to a stop there's still torque stored up in the axle. When you let off the brakes the torque is released and sent through the drive shaft feeling like someone hit you behind". This is the exact description in which I am experiencing regarding my 2001 Tacoma 4 Door 4x4. One comment from toodlums on 5/22/04 stated Toyota is aware of it and is a supposed have a repair directive to fix this problem. I am taking my Toy in tonight to get someone to look at it and address this issue. Just wanted another opion on this issue. Any one else having this same issue..it looks as if the answer may be yes. If so, has any one resolved the issue? Would it be under warrenty as I do have my Transmission warrenty still in effect? Any recall notices? B)
