New Owner, 09 Aygo

In May I bought my first car, a Toyota Aygo 1.0. Before the purchase I did a lot of research, the parents wanted me to buy a Yaris. Now almost 2,5 months later I am very happy I bough the Aygo. It's a great small car with very good fuel consumption. Here are my thoughts after driving it for awhile

PROS:

• Size, it looks very small from the outside but the inside is very roomy.
• 4 doors, I'm happy I went with this configuration (My friends for some reason always try to access the backseats by the front, they think it's a 2 door car ).
• Fuel consumption, I manage to get 600-650 km on one tank of fuel no matter how or where I drive the Aygo.
• CD-stereo, I'm really excited about the AUX connectivity.

CONS:

• Road noise, probably my number one concern and the thing I get most irritated by. When I have the volume very high, it's more bearable. I'm considering doing some sound proofing, any ideas??
• Tyres, I really don't like the tires i've got right now (165/55-14) and they do affect the overall comfort. I'm thinking of changing the tires to 195/45-15, anyone done this??
• Front Speakers, the original ones really suck at high volume...the base is just rubbish.

OK Khalid, welcome and looks like you are from Sweden. The trees on the background and the scenery are a dead give away. Just joking, Your number plate says S on it but I did think that the trees were very much like the ones we have in south of Sweden. Coming to your question on sound proofing. It is very easy and dead effective. I did that to my wife's Aygo 2008 years model and she can drive on motor way at 110Km/hour without much noise issue. It won't be like the BMW but a lot better. You will have to use a combination of bitumen sheet first and then a layer of non water absorbent closed cell foam sheets on top of it. That applies to the whole floor and the door cards. There are some other areas like the A pillar, B pillar and the C pillar that will require some foam sheets glued under plastic panel. Don't forget the under the bonnet area. A heat reflective foam sheet gopes there (Biltema). The original tiny insulation under the bonnet is a joke.

Since your car does not have fog lights, I wonder if it is the old type of Aygo that you bought (even if it is 2009) and that means you have the older CD/Radio and that is a bonus, because you can easily change the head unit and Speakers. But that is a different topic. Do search in this forum and all the information that you need is here.

Thank you very much for this detailed information. About the fog lights, I do fint it very odd since my car is produced in november 2008...this must have been one of the very last of the "olds".
