Do All 2009+ Avensis Have Dpf?

Afraid of the horror stories you hear from people with the new diesel cars and all of their diesel problems, now Im well aware that up to 2008 model had pretty decent engineswith no dpf stuff ,only the headgasket issues if you were unlucky.

But now thinking of getting the new 2009+ model, but wondering if all of the diesel engines for the new model have the dpf stuff? and if so do they give much trouble for the avensis?

Yes I would say so as cars had to meet euro 5.

The exhaust emissions standards for new cars have effectively required fitment of a DPF in the exhaust of diesel cars since 2009 when the 'Euro 5' standard came into force. In fact, many cars registered before 2009 will have had one fitted too in anticipation of the change in standards.

No, I have a 2011 2.2 and my son has a 2009 2.00 and neither one has a dpf.

But DPFs don't seem to be an issue on Avensis to the extent that they are on several other brands as we rarely see people on here saying that they have had to replace one.

I have just checked on the original Toyota brochure which I have from when I bought the car a 2011 2.2D4D TR tourer, the availabe engines at the time of purchase where, 1.6 Valvematic, 1.8 Valvematic, 2.00 D4D, 2.2 D4D 150 and 2.2 DCAT 150.

Also at the time the dealer gave me the choice of 2.2 D4D (no DPF) or 2.2 DCAT (with DPF).

So yes I would bet.

some cars were made from without DPF.

The road tax banding on them is different.

2009+ avensis with road tax with DPF is 30£

2009+ avensis 2.2 road tax with DPF is 130/140£

The 2009> non-D-CAT diesels still have a DPF, just not Toyota's DNPR (D-CAT) system.

I think as long as you don't drive it like a granny or in start-stop traffic all the time it'll be okay; The problem with DPFs is they need to be run hot to burn off the soot; This pretty much only happens if you're on the motorway or a fast A-road (Long hill-climbs are also acceptable), and also depends on not using 6th gear while that's happening. (6th at legal motorway speeds is basically idle RPM in most D4D's; Supremely fuel-efficient but the engine never gets hot!)

This is why we tend to not recommend later D4D's to people unless their journey includes a bit of fast road.

That said, a weekend hoon can be enough to keep it in good shape, and is good for keeping the injectors clean too!

V-Power diesel and bio diesel also produce significantly less soot and can also help with DPF maintenance.

I am confused now, I also have a 2013 Avensis brochure and this still lists the same engine specs except the 2.00 D4D which now states it has a dpf, but the 2.2 still does not.

Where would the dpf be located I will take look?.

The introduction of the DPF was actually phased over a few months late 2010 into 2011

well there we go, that's as definitive as we'll get from a man who should know.

I'll admit that I was wrong as I did think that DPFs were introduced across the board with the T27 from the start.

btw what kind of MPG you guys get on you 2009+ avensis from 2.0 engine?

I can see in specs it says 61mpg , while the 2003-2008 model has 47mpg from the 2.0 diesel engine.

However when checking on honestjohn and other sites where it reports the true mpg the MPG of both are almost identical at ~50mpg.

Was wondering if it really has that much better MPG over the old version or not? in the fuel savings alone I could save the difference it costs buying 2009+ model instead of the old one if it was true.
