P2002 Triple Fault

Hi All,

Great forums, a goldmine of knowledge, glad I found it although for the wrong reasons :D

I have just had the above code cropping up regularly accompanied by limp mode until it is reset and wondered if this extended warranty still stands on my Rav 4

Does anyone know the statute of limitations on the dreaded VSC, Engine management, 4x4 P2002 fault and power loss extended warranty?, I have read a few threads and documents and the limits appear to range from 100k KM OR 100k miles and 7 years to 114000 miles and 7 years?

Just wondering if an extended warranty repair/engine is still an option or has the ship already sailed by now on a 2006 car?

Details

2006 Model Rav 4 T180 D-4D with only 61850 miles on the clock (closing in on 100,000km though) Full service history

I have printed out the 2011 warranty bulletin (0730J) just in case, are there any other details that may be worth taking along to Toyota to increase my chances of coming away with my wallet intact?

I am based in Bristol UK if thats of any help

Many thanks

Simon

Hello Simon - welcome to Toyota Owners Club.

See the first post of the following - http://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/132178-charliefarlies-guide-to-the-toyota-2ad-diesel-engine-and-its-issues/

The measures that Toyota put into place for out of warranty repairs were goodwill, rather than an extended warranty, and the limits were until the vehicle reached 7 years of age or 111,846 miles (180,000km) whichever occurs first. So unfortunately, a 2006 vehicle would be outside of this goodwill measure.

Hi Mike,

Do you know, I just re-read that part and the penny dropped, for some reason I has misinterpreted it the wrong way around thinking that the low milage trumped the age, DOH. I suppose I had better start looking at how to clean the EGR valve myself now and hope I can prevent the error from re-occurring. I have no doubt a good guide will be found within these pages as I have noticed a few mentions of said guide already.

Many thanks for the swift reply, I now have some reading to do.

Hi Simon it will no doubt be the EGR valve the warning lights you got should not come on, I know if would be a shock to see so many.......... Toyota have a software fix but none of them seem to want to load the new software while they are servicing the vehicle.

Give it a good clean make sure it runs OK, then Blank the !Removed! thing OFF...If you need to get rid of any warning lights and you have no code reader you can just remove the Battery for a fews mins...Goog luck

Warning lights came back repeatedly (I use a bluetooth ODBII dongle and Torque for android to reset codes) so I took it to a Toyota dealer, they "regenerated the DPF", reset the codes and serviced it for £228, I have now ran it for 50 miles on dual carraigeways and the erros seem to be gone, hopefully I can get many more years out of the motor and will give it a lot of extra preventitive measures.

Cheers for all of the advice here and a big hoorah for Toyota Dealers Motorline in Brislington, Bristol for honest and upfront help.
