Leaking Cam Chain Cover

Hi guys,

My 2.2D 2007 Rav is leaking oil from the cam chain cover, just above the alternator.

My local garage..not a main dealer Toyota 'specialist'.. is asking for £700 as a starting cost with the option of adding to the bill for any unseen problems!!

Seems a lot of cash for a leaking 12mm of cover joint...more of an annoyance than essential

I can get another engine fitted with a years warranty for another £300.

Thought about putting a dab of epoxy putty on the joint to act as a cover... it's as hard as steel and temperature resistant..yes...no..yes... no???

Any other thoughts to cure this annoyance???

try to nip it up,,, you can get metal putty,,, thats hard as METAL, but it must be really clean before you try and seal it, try the epoxy but really clean it,,,I don't hold out much hope but would be interested to know if it works, oil may look like it coming from one spot but it migrates all over....Not sure if you can still get a oil leak additive try a local motor spares shop Redex use to make one not seem any for ages .... try everthing...
