If I remember rightly mine took 75w90 think about 2 litres.though I had mine done while replacement for the dmf don't know how hard it will be to do..search europarts and type in your reg and will give you types of what's needed

Best to be absolutely sure about the gearbox oil else you can wind up with clunky gear changes. I thnk Devon Aygo posted about this some time ago, there was a bit of a convoluted story before the type/grade was finally settled.

by the way, the attachment may be of interest. Originally posted by T-spirit Pete.

I changed the gearbox oil in my 2004 2.0 t spirit avensis when I bought the car.

Worked very well for me because my cars gears were very stiff and hard to change whilst the car was cold. Once it picked up temp it was fine. Since the job, its been spot on. Smooth and easy gear changes no matter how cold it is outside. Think it 75w90 and it took good part of 4 litres. And £20 labour charge but definitely worth it.

hello its in the manual 75/90 fully syn 2.5 litres (i used toyota's stuff), make all 4 corners are jacked up at the same height unless on ramp, undo the filler hole first at the front (just incase you drain all the oil and cannot refill) you will need a swan neck spanner to undo the drain hole either 23mm or 24mm, space is tight to fill in back up so try and use maybe some tubing or a manual pump, hope this helps

  • 9 years later...

My avensis has 201k km and doesn't appear to have had this oil changed. The gearbox remains okay but I'm thinking it might be worth it for long life? Looks like the front left wheel and a load of plastic trims needs removing . Is it really worthwhile?

I did it recently after 19 years and 162k miles. (manual trans). It feels like the gears are shifting better. And the most important I have my peace of mind.

Toyoto Avensis saloon 2012 plate T27

Simlpe job to do jack up front remove drain  plug 24mm

Drain into large container ..... Remove filler plug 24mm

around 2.3 litres of Gear oil    75w / 90

Replace drain plug is a good idea thought i would mention that...Lots forget lol

Hardest part about it all is getting the oil back in..mate has a pump so cup of tea while he sorted it out

you will most likely have to sqeeze the oil in or find a mate with a pump

I use this

Liqui Moly GL5 SAE 75W-90 Fully Synthetic High Performance Gear Oil

No wheel off and no plastics removed...

You can if you want to though

Thats all she wrote............Simple sat morning 30 min job

Then back to building this
