Celica - Pain In The Backside

Enough is enough. I've had this car for 14 months from new and its been a catalogue of disasters.

Vibration at speed. It comes and goes, never when Mr T tech is driving it though. Usually around 80 mph but wheels checked for balancing and 4 wheel alignment ok.

Car delivered new with 4 wheel alignment a MILE out. Pulled like a dustcart for 2 months until Mr T finally sorted it out. Ended up with sore shoulder that still gives me trouble 12 months on.

Both front windows leak. Its having a new seal fitted to the drivers side tomorrow morning but the passenger side is now pouring in.

Alarm goes off. When it feels like it. Usually in hot weather. Attempts by Mr T to sort it out unsuccessful. Nothing kept in central cup holders just in case.

Two new alloys needed on the back as originals flaked after 12 months ! Front two showing signs as well.

Vibration on braking, now fixed by skimming discs but still necessitated day off work. Stll cringe everytime I hit the brakes.

:ffs: :ffs: :ffs: :ffs: :ffs: :ffs: :ffs: :ffs: :ffs: :ffs: :ffs: :ffs: :ffs: :ffs: :ffs:

So, the thing is going. I'm thinking of a Corolla T-Sport, but am a bit concerned about Toyota after all of this. Other alternative is Honda Civic Type R but dont like the look of the insurance. My old Honda Civic coupe did 115,000 without a hiccup.

Any thoughts ?

Cheers

You and Giddlepin have a lot in common.. he got a 'duff' Celica as well and had numerous problems... He is now prancing about in a new Mk3 MR2 which he loves by all accounts..

The only common fault across the board i know of is the Rims flaking... i know that this is now sorted but you have to ask for your wheels to be changed on warrenty and they should give you a set which are much better now...

Sorry to hear you got a 'dud 'un'... and that you dont let this put you off another Toyota.. :)

Sorry to hear I'm not the only one. Mr T replaced the alloys but its the inconvenience of getting them ordered, taking time off work and there never seeming to be a courtesy car available !

I looked at the MR2 but being 6ft 2" I had to be shoe-horned out of it. No way could I drive one - I was like a praying mantis (knees higher than head  ).

Mr T will have to offer me a spectacular good deal if I'm to persist with them.

I'll keep you informed as to what 'deal' they offer me on Corolla T-Sport, if indeed I like it after the test drive.

Just had new seal fitted and other seal 'greased'. Car smells like a tarts handbag now.

New Corolla T-Sport demo being delivered on 18th June so booked in for test drive. Got finance sorted - plenty of cash in car after finance paid off so its down to test drive now.

I'll keep you informed.

you'll like the T-sport m8, the engine brings a different level of acceleration to the 140 celica :)

sounds like you got a very poor example of a celica though! so much for toyotas build quality then!

just wait 'til you hit 6200rpm in the corolla accylad ;) keep us updated
