Just Reached 200,000 Miles In My 2.2 D-4d Corolla Verso

Hi everyone,

I just thought I'd let everyone know that I have reached 200,000 miles in my Corolla Verso 2.2 D-4D today! Given the amount of problems that are posted on this forum regarding this engine, I thought I'd take this opportunity to remind everyone that the problems listed on this forum are not guaranteed to happen to your car! To date, my 2.2 D-4D is *TOUCHWOOD* still on its original turbo, clutch, dmf, timing chain etc. I have never had to change a thing apart from regular servicing!

And I'm sure there are many more 2.2 D-4D's out there which have completed many more miles than I have.

Mine is TROUBLE! 119K ENGINE gone due to oil consumption issue. Got new engine fitted in, put new gearbox oil in. Car worked for 1 week then oil leaked everywhere. Then next day doesnt start, starter motor gone. Next 2 days, attempted push start, heard a loud clunk and the CLUTCH WENT AGAIN, WITHIN A WEEK AND 10 MILES OF DRIVING. ALL work carried out by Toyota and genuine parts. Now some plonker hit the car and ran off. Cars just bad luck, spent 2k+ on a car which is worth about £900 now.

Ouch. Sounds nasty.

All I know is some engines are better than others. I've got no idea why yours acted up in that way.

I must say if that had happened to me I would definitely NOT be praising any Toyota for reaching 200k. Tbh I would've probably ditched toyota all together

Exactly! I got better out of a VW and they are a pile of heap. Good on your car though, sounds like you got a good one.

nice to hear good news on this type of engine, all I have read is bad, on how many miles did you get the car on.

Hi,

Bought the car with about 150k miles on it in 2010 so I've only done 50k miles in it in 5 years! The previous owner had done the majority of miles when he bought it in 2006.

I wonder if its had a replacement engine under warranty in the past

I'm pretty sure its on the original engine. There's nothing suggesting this in the service history. And the MOTs all correspond too.

it's the norm for people to complain when they have a problem but not to praise when things just work.

From things posted here, there etc. & a bit of research my best guesstimate is that it's under 5% (probably well under) of these engines in the affected period that developed the head gasket issue. Only Toyota know for sure though & they are not telling.

Shame really as apart from that potential fault it's a decent engine & probably has fewer issues than equivalent Ford/PSA/VW units.
