why is my steering wheel vibrating when i brake in my carina e ?the discs look sound and it went through its p.s.v. (taxi)test no problem yesterday,could it be a seized caliper pin/thanks in advance.

sounds like warped discs, if there was a caliper gone it would pull to one side, and as the steering wheel only vibrates when braking it points to the front discs, your local dealership may offer to skim them but to be honest if your doing lots of miles then i would go for new ones and pads....only efficiency is tested on a mot.

Depending on the type off judder could it not also be tyre alignment and condition.

When my rears were dead I noticed a serious judder and pull under braking which dissapeared now that I have had the tyres replaced and all 4 whells balanced....

Just a thought...

no new tyres all round and 4 wheel alignment done.thanks rhaines

I have experienced the same symptoms with my Carina and recognise it (from my days as a motorcyclist) as warped brake discs. I have ordered a new pair of discs and set of front pads online from sapmotors.co.uk - total cost £60 delivered.

Correction - that's sapmotorparts.com

20/03/03 New parts now fitted - judder now gone - beautiful smooth braking - I'm happy.
