2008 Yaris Key Programming Help!

I stupidly dropped my Yaris transponder key down the drain!

Thankfully I have a second transponder key, so I have been using that.

I rang Toyota and they wanted £106 for a new key programmed, so I looked online and came across a post with instructions on how to reprogram a new key.

So I went onto eBay and bought a second hand key, that matches the other one, as in the same codes on the back of the key, with a view to program it and get a new blade cut.

However i'm a little nervous about trying the programming procedure, as I am concerned I may wipe all keys from the system! And i cant seem to find instructions for model specific years, only Yaris, so I don't know if it will even work with my car, the instructions I have start with Within 15 seconds press and release the accelerator pedal, then within 20 seconds press and release the break pedal 6 times.

Firstly is what i'm doing possible? and secondly will those instructions work for my year of car?

Thank you!

Matthew

Hello,

Thanks a lot for this,

Is this relevant to my year of car though?

Not sure if I need to follow the Add Mode section? or the first section below programming new keys?

And where it says All four modes start with these instructions, does that apply to the add more and programming sections to go before that?

Can anyone help? as i'm completely stuck at the moment and don't know what to do to get this sorted.

Doesn't seem like anyone has a solid answer to this, though 24 hours isn't long to wait in this sort of forum. IIRC there was a similar thread 6-12 months ago, so you might try searching for that.

Otherwise you'll just have to try the procedures above in different permutations and see if it works. I'd very much doubt it will erase existing keys - you probably need a programing tool to do that sort of thing.

If you want a guaranteed result them £100 at a dealer is the answer.

Slightly less sure would be a decent auto-electrical/key person. Probably £50-£60, but they should be able to sort it all out. Downside is you will probably get a 'generic' key fob rather than a Toyota one.

Thanks for your reply Mike,

I have purchased a spare transponder key which corresponds with my existing key in terms of part no etc. and i have now purchased a new blade, so the key and blade etc with cutting is going to end up costing me around £30, and i have spoken to my local Toyota dealer and they have said they will program in the used key for around £50, so still a savings on £106 they quoted me originally.

I just hope they will be able to program in a used fob and their will be no issues.
