Flat Battery

I have recently (this week) experienced problems with my 2001 Avensis. The management light, brake light, seat belt light, Battery light and the rev counter - speedometer all either go on or lock up (rev and speedo). Turning off the ignition does not help as the car will then not start - requires a push and a half for a person of my age. First time I drove home once I was able to get enough speed on the flat to jump start in third gear. Two days later with a fully charged Battery the identical thing happened and the car lost a lot of power. If left for a day or two the car will restart. The car also has sat nav, the unit in the boot.

Do not quite understand why all the warning lights light up.

Can anyone suggest where the problem lies. Thanks

Sounds like you may have a problem with your alternator. Those symptoms were a feature of a failing alternator on the MR2.

If you have a volt meter bridge the Battery terminals whilst the engine is running. If you get less than 14.5v the alternator isn't generating enough charge. Obviously check that the belt isn't slipping before considering buying a new unit.

Thanks Gary, and YUP it is the alternator - I did think it was but wanted at least one feedback. Cheers. Happy motoring
