an auto has effectivly a clutch for every gear (well sort of)

and youll blow the whole thing up if its gonna go!

Got some trucks at work with selectronic gearboxes, all you do is hold your foot down on the throttle, nudge the stick forward once and the rev's will drop, it will select the next gear (up 1 gear, slight push, up 2 gears, hard push) up to 12th gear.

Then downshifting , you just nudge back the same way and it brings up the rev's to match the road speed, or you just brake down to the speed you need and it will select the neccessary gear needed to carry on.
