T25 With A Blown Head Gasket

Hi there

I own 2004 Avensis with a 2L petrol engine. I have had an oil leak recently, took the car to my local garage to have it inspected and it turns out that the blown head gasket is main reason for the leak. I have been quoted over a £1,000 for getting it repaired which sounds a bit steep. I have done a bit of research and it turns out that I could get a second hand engine with new gaskets, have it fitted and all for roughly the same amount of money.

It makes me wonder, are these eBay deals to good to be true or am I being ripped of by my local garage?

Recondition engines if done right are like new engines if you fix your engine it still has x amount of miles on it, and is your mechanic ripping you off it depends on what he his going to do with your engine, get a second quote from another mechanic and that they are doing the same work will let know this.

£1000 on a 11 year old car worth spending is another question you need to ask your self you could get another car for that.
